Nuclear transport factor 2 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Nuclear transport factor 2 pseudogene is a nonfunctional DNA sequence homologous to the nuclear transport factor 2 gene. Unlike its parent gene (NUTF2), which encodes a cytosolic factor critical for protein nuclear import, the pseudogene lacks the ability to produce any functional protein due to missing or disrupted coding sequences. Pseudogenes commonly arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate disabling mutations over time. Though most pseudogenes have no biological activity, rare regulatory functions (such as acting as RNA decoys) have been described for some, but not specifically for this pseudogene.

Other names
Nuclear transport factor 2 pseudogene 2NUTF2P2
02

Mechanism of action

None; not targeted by drugs

03

Biological functions

None; pseudogenes lack protein-coding function and usually play no direct biological role. Rarely, some pseudogenes may modulate gene expression by acting as miRNA decoys or generating regulatory RNAs
04

Disease associations

None directly; pseudogene. However, pseudogenes can occasionally play regulatory roles in cancer or other diseases as RNA elements. For this specific pseudogene, no direct disease association is known
05

Safety considerations

None; pseudogenes are generally not considered in safety assessments due to lack of protein expression
06

Interacting drugs

None
07

Biomarkers

None
