Nucleolar protein 10 (NOL10)

Target
NOL10
Molecular classification
Other (non-enzyme, non-receptor nucleolar protein), RNA-binding protein
01

Overview

Nucleolar protein 10 (NOL10) is a nucleolar RNA-binding protein involved in the maturation of the small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU-rRNA) from the tricistronic transcript, playing a key role in ribosome biogenesis. NOL10 is required for proper nucleolar structure and function and localizes predominantly to the nucleolus in the cell nucleus. Elevated NOL10 expression is associated with aggressive clinicopathologic features and poor prognosis in breast cancer, particularly in triple-negative subtypes, and may serve as a biomarker of poor outcome and chemotherapy resistance. NOL10 is not considered a traditional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or ion channel, and currently, no drugs are known to directly target it in therapy.
