Overview

Nucleolar protein 14 (NOP14) is a highly conserved nucleolar protein involved primarily in the nucleolar processing of pre-18S ribosomal RNA and the nuclear export of the 40S pre-ribosomal subunit to the cytoplasm[1][2][6][7]. It plays an essential role in ribosome biogenesis, and has been implicated in regulating cell proliferation and migration, particularly in pancreatic cancer[2]. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Although mutations or dysregulation of NOP14 are associated with certain genetic syndromes, such as Bowen-Conradi syndrome, it is not classified as a conventional therapeutic target such as an enzyme, receptor, ion channel, or transporter[2][5][6].
