Nucleolar protein 16 (NOP16)

Target
NOP16
Molecular classification
Other, Nucleolar protein involved in ribosomal biogenesis

Overview

Nucleolar protein 16 (NOP16) is a nucleolar-localized protein involved in the biogenesis of the large 60S ribosomal subunit and RNA binding[1][2][6][7]. Its expression is induced by estrogens and Myc, and it is considered a marker for poor prognosis in breast cancer[2]. NOP16 has also been implicated in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) via the Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathway[4][5]. There are several transcript variants due to alternative splicing. Although NOP16 is involved in critical cellular processes and linked to cancer biology, it is not generally classified as a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor.
