Overview

Nucleolar protein with MIF4G domain 1 (NOM1) is a nucleolar protein containing MIF4G and/or MA3 domains, involved in RNA processing and pre-rRNA maturation by interacting with DEAD-box RNA helicases and functioning as a scaffold for ribosome biogenesis. NOM1 also acts as a regulatory subunit for protein phosphatase 1 (PP1), mediating PP1 recruitment to the nucleolus via a conserved RVXF motif and nucleolar localization sequence. In addition, NOM1 is implicated in signaling pathways with the insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) and participates in the regulation of cell growth, proliferation, and nucleolar function. NOM1 is not currently considered a direct therapeutic drug target nor are there any approved drugs or established biomarkers directly targeting this protein.
