Nucleophosmin 1 pseudogene 18 (NPM1P18) is a non-coding pseudogene related in sequence to the nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) gene. Unlike the functional NPM1 gene—which encodes a nucleolar phosphoprotein involved in ribosome biogenesis, genomic stability, and is a well-established therapeutic and diagnostic target in acute myeloid leukemia—NPM1P18 does not encode a functional protein and has no established biological, clinical, or therapeutic relevance. It is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biomarker. Its naming and appearance in gene databases is largely due to sequence similarity to NPM1, but it should not be confused with NPM1 itself, for which extensive oncology literature exists[2].
