Nucleophosmin 1 pseudogene 20 (NPM1P20) is classified as a processed pseudogene of the NPM1 gene. Pseudogenes are genic loci that resemble normal genes but typically do not encode functional proteins due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements. NPM1P20 shares sequence similarity with the functional NPM1 gene (which encodes the nucleolar protein Nucleophosmin), but there is no evidence that NPM1P20 is transcribed or translated into a functional protein. It is not considered a therapeutic target and has no known biological functions, disease associations, biomarker roles, drug interactions, or mechanisms of action. NPM1P20 should not be confused with NPM1 (Nucleophosmin), which is a well-studied multifunctional protein involved in ribosome biogenesis, genomic stability, cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and cancer and is a therapeutic target in certain hematologic malignancies[1][2][3][4][5][6].
