Target intelligence / Profile preview
Nucleophosmin 1 pseudogene 27 (NPM1P27) is a non-functional, non-protein-coding DNA sequence that represents a pseudogene of the NPM1 gene. Unlike the canonical NPM1 gene, which encodes a nucleolar phosphoprotein implicated in processes such as ribosomal biogenesis and is frequently mutated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML)[2], NPM1P27 does not encode a protein or participate in recognized biological or pathogenic pathways. There is no evidence linking NPM1P27 to therapeutic drug targeting, disease mechanisms, or biomarker use. Pseudogenes are generally not considered legitimate molecular targets in drug discovery or disease diagnostics unless specific evidence demonstrates a functional or regulatory role, which does not apply to NPM1P27. This entry has been included in error as a putative target: it is neither a receptor, enzyme, nor any molecule with established clinical significance. The canonical NPM1 gene, by contrast, is an important molecular target and biomarker in hematologic malignancies, but the pseudogene (NPM1P27) is not[2]. If you intended the functional nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) gene or protein, or another related molecule, please clarify, as only the canonical NPM1 (not any NPM1 pseudogene) is established as a therapeutic target[2].
