Nucleophosmin 1 pseudogene 35 (NPM1P35) refers to a pseudogene—a segment of DNA similar to the nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) gene but generally considered non-functional because it does not code for an active protein. Pseudogenes may arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and usually do not possess biological activity or disease associations characteristic of functional genes. There is no evidence that NPM1P35 itself functions as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or has independent biological or disease relevance. The canonical, functional form is nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1), which is a nucleolar protein involved in diverse cellular functions including ribosome biogenesis, cell cycle regulation, and is implicated in various cancers—especially acute myeloid leukemia—but NPM1P35 does not encode this functional product. Based on all available information, inclusion of "nucleophosmin 1 pseudogene 35" as a drug target is incorrect. For drug discovery or therapeutic purposes, focus should be on the functional protein NPM1, not the pseudogene NPM1P35.
