Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes like NPM1P9 are generally non-functional, do not encode proteins, and are not transcribed or translated into products that perform biological roles. NPM1P9 is not associated with disease, is not a target for drug development, and has no established molecular classification beyond its designation as a pseudogene. The related functional gene, NPM1, participates in ribosome biogenesis, genomic stability, apoptosis, and has major disease relevance in hematological malignancies (specifically acute myeloid leukemia)[1][3][4][5], but these properties do not apply to NPM1P9.
