Nucleoplasmin-2 (NPM2) is a histone chaperone protein primarily involved in chromatin reprogramming, particularly during fertilization and early embryonic development. NPM2 is predicted to enable RNA binding, chromatin binding, and histone binding activities, and it likely plays a role in sperm DNA decondensation during fertilization, as well as in the regulation of the cell cycle and in oocyte differentiation. It is located in the nucleus and chromatin. Current data do not support NPM2 as a conventional therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter); its roles are mainly in nuclear structural and epigenetic processes rather than as a direct druggable target. No clinically relevant drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns are documented for NPM2, nor is there evidence linking NPM2 directly with common disease categories based on current mainstream resources.
