Overview

Nucleoporin 43 (NUP43) is a member of the Nup107-160 subcomplex of the nuclear pore complex (NPC), a large macromolecular structure embedded in the nuclear envelope that controls the exchange of macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm[1][2][3][4]. NUP43 contains a WD40 repeat domain and a seven-bladed β-propeller architecture, contributing to the scaffold’s stability and assembly of the NPC[4]. It is essential for proper kinetochore microtubule attachment and accurate chromosome segregation during cell division[1]. High NUP43 expression is correlated with poor survival in breast cancer and resistance to the tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib in leukemia, suggesting disease relevance[1]. NUP43 is part of various cellular and disease processes but is not currently a direct therapeutic target.
