Nucleoredoxin pseudogene 1 (NXNP1) is annotated as a pseudogene derived from the nucleoredoxin (NXN) gene. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but typically lack the ability to encode active protein products due to mutations, truncations, or lack of regulatory elements. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may have functional roles in regulating gene expression—such as acting as microRNA decoys or forming antisense RNA duplexes—NXNP1 has no established function and no reported role as a therapeutic target or direct disease association. No protein, pathway, or drug interaction is linked to NXNP1, and it is classified in molecular databases as a non-coding DNA element. NXNP1 is distinct from NXN (Nucleoredoxin), which encodes a thioredoxin family redox protein involved in Wnt signaling and cell regulation. The “pseudogene” designation means NXNP1 lacks catalytic activity, ligand binding, or signaling functions typical of druggable targets. NXNP1 thus does not meet criteria as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other drug target and should generally be excluded from lists of therapeutic targets unless future data show a regulatory function in disease contexts.
