Overview

Nucleoside diphosphate kinase 7 (NME7) is a member of the nucleoside diphosphate kinase enzyme family, responsible for catalyzing the reversible transfer of phosphate groups from nucleoside triphosphates to nucleoside diphosphates, thereby maintaining cellular pools of NTPs essential for nucleic acid synthesis and other processes[2][4][5]. NME7 also functions as a regulatory protein in the gamma-tubulin ring complex, modulating microtubule nucleation critical for cytoskeletal organization and cell division[7]. Additionally, this isoform has unique 3'-5' exonuclease activity with specificity for single-stranded DNA, suggesting possible roles in DNA repair mechanisms[6]. Although its enzymatic function is well established, the precise physiological and pathological roles of NME7 in human disease remain under investigation, and as of now, it is not directly targeted by approved therapeutic agents.
