Nucleosome assembly protein 1-like 4 pseudogene 2 (NAP1L4P2) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the nucleosome assembly protein family, specifically the parental gene NAP1L4[3]. Processed pseudogenes are non-coding DNA sequences derived from mRNA reverse transcription and genomic insertion, typically lacking introns and protein-coding function. While once regarded as non-functional genomic relics, some processed pseudogenes like those similar to NAP1L4P2 can regulate parental or related gene expression through mechanisms such as acting as decoys or sponges for microRNAs, contributing to RNA stability regulation, or participating in ceRNA networks[1][2]. There is no evidence that NAP1L4P2 encodes a protein or functions as a conventional therapeutic target such as an enzyme, receptor, channel, or transporter. No small molecules, biologics, or diagnostic biomarkers are known to interact with this pseudogene, nor does it have known clinical safety implications. Its functional relevance is limited to potential regulatory roles at the RNA level, a property shared by several pseudogenes[1][2][3].
