Overview
The NLRP3 inflammasome is an intracellular multiprotein complex that plays a critical role in the innate immune system. It acts as a sensor for pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), triggering the activation of caspase-1 and the subsequent release of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. Dysregulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome is implicated in various chronic inflammatory diseases, making it a promising therapeutic target.
