Nudix hydrolase 9 pseudogene 1 (NUDT9P1) is a human pseudogene classified as a member of the nudix hydrolase family of genes, but it does not produce a functional protein product. As a pseudogene, NUDT9P1 is considered a noncoding genomic element arising from duplication or retrotransposition of the functional NUDT9 gene or another nudix family member, which has lost coding potential through mutations. NUDT9P1 is a bona fide genomic locus but *not* a viable drug or disease target. There is nothing incorrect about the locus name or assignment, but it is important to note its limited biological and pharmacological significance.
