NUP153 antisense RNA 1 (NUP153-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed in antisense orientation relative to the protein-coding NUP153 gene, which encodes a component of the nuclear pore complex. NUP153-AS1 does not encode a protein and its biological function, involvement in disease, and druggability have not been established. It is distinguished from the canonical NUP153 gene, which is important in nucleocytoplasmic transport and nuclear pore structure, but NUP153-AS1 itself has not been characterized as a molecular target.
