Overview

NUP214 antisense RNA 1 (NUP214-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed in the antisense direction to the NUP214 gene. Antisense RNAs generally function by regulating the expression of their sense gene counterparts through several mechanisms, including transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, or RNA–RNA interactions[3]. However, there is no evidence that NUP214-AS1 is itself a validated therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), nor that it serves as a biomarker or is the mechanism of action for any approved drug. Antisense lncRNAs, such as NUP214-AS1, can modulate gene expression in cis (on the same chromosome) or in trans (across other chromosomes), but their roles, molecular mechanisms, and disease associations are often incompletely understood unless specifically characterized[3][6]. Currently, there appears to be no directly associated interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or safety concerns specific to NUP214-AS1. \n**NOTE:** NUP214 itself (not its antisense transcript) encodes nucleoporin 214, which is involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport and has well-established disease roles (notably in leukemia due to NUP214 fusion proteins such as NUP214-ABL1)[1][2][4][5]. However, "NUP214 antisense RNA 1" is not a receptor, enzyme, drug target, or known protein, but instead a non-coding RNA with regulatory potential.
