Overview

Examples include natural compounds like piperine (from black pepper), pharmaceutical excipients such as salcaprozate sodium (SNAC), surfactants like sodium caprate, and nutrients such as ascorbic acid (which enhances iron absorption). The concept is used in both drug development and nutrition science to increase the oral or transdermal effectiveness of poorly absorbed compounds. However, "nutrient absorption enhancer" is a functional class, not a discrete molecular drug target.
