Overview

NRAC (C14orf180), also known as Nutritionally-regulated adipose and cardiac enriched protein homolog, is a predicted transmembrane protein mainly expressed in adipose tissue and heart. Expression is nutritionally regulated, decreasing during fasting and obesity, and is highly induced during adipocyte differentiation. Knockdown studies (in stem cell models) suggest a role in adipocyte lipid accumulation, implicating NRAC in metabolic regulation and possibly disease, although its precise molecular function remains poorly understood. There are no documented clinical drugs or validated biomarkers associated with NRAC, but its restricted tissue pattern and potential involvement in metabolism make it an emerging candidate for further research in metabolic and cardiovascular disorders.
