NYN domain and retroviral integrase containing (NYNRIN) is a protein-coding gene predicted to enable RNA endonuclease and mRNA binding activities, and suggested to participate in DNA integration, DNA synthesis during repair, and DNA-templated replication[1][3]. The protein includes a NYN domain, structurally similar to nucleic acid-processing enzymes, and a region resembling a retroviral integrase catalytic domain, likely the result of an ancient gene fusion event[7]. NYNRIN is expressed in diverse human tissues, implicated in regulation of trophoblast invasion (via epithelial-mesenchymal transition and extracellular matrix remodeling), and has been associated with certain rare genetic disorders (osteopathia striata with cranial sclerosis, hereditary Wilms' tumor)[1][5]. It is not currently recognized as a therapeutic drug target[1][3][5].
