Target intelligence / Profile preview

Vibrio cholerae O-specific Polysaccharide Antigen (OSP)

Target
OSP
Molecular classification
Polysaccharide, Lipopolysaccharide component, Antigen
01

Overview

The O-specific polysaccharide (OSP) antigen of *Vibrio cholerae* is a key structural and immunogenic component of the bacterium’s lipopolysaccharide (LPS) layer. It forms the outermost domain of LPS, projecting from the bacterial surface, and is responsible for serogroup specificity in *V. cholerae*. The structure and composition of this antigen vary between different serogroups, most notably O1 and O139, which are associated with epidemic cholera. It is a target for diagnostics and vaccine development.
