Overview

OCLN pseudogene 1 (OCLNP1) is a processed pseudogene in humans, related to the parental OCLN gene that encodes the tight junction protein occludin[5][1]. Like other pseudogenes, OCLNP1 does not code for a functional protein and is traditionally considered nonfunctional; however, recent research shows that pseudogenes can play regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or modulating various gene expression networks[2][4][9]. Despite this, OCLNP1 itself is not a recognized therapeutic target, is not used as a druggable entity, and has no established role as a biomarker or in disease beyond its potential as a noncoding regulatory element in cellular networks[5][9]. There are no known drugs or safety concerns associated with OCLNP1.
