Ocular Surface Inflammation (OSI)

Target
OSI
Molecular classification
Inflammatory response, Immune response
01

Overview

Ocular surface inflammation refers to a pathological inflammatory response affecting the tissues that make up the ocular surface, including the cornea, conjunctiva, limbus, eyelids (including meibomian glands), and associated structures such as the lacrimal gland. This inflammation disrupts normal ocular surface homeostasis and is a central feature in various diseases collectively termed Ocular Surface Inflammatory Disorders (OSID).

Mechanism of action

Drugs aim to reduce leukocyte infiltration, suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine release, and restore ocular surface homeostasis through immunosuppression, lubrication, or management of contributing factors like lid hygiene.
