OFD1 pseudogene 15 Y-linked (OFD1P15Y) refers to one of several pseudogenes derived from the OFD1 gene and located on the Y chromosome in humans. These Y-linked OFD1 pseudogenes arose from gene duplication events and are nonfunctional, lacking transcriptional and translational activity[1]. In primates, the Y chromosome hosts a large number of such OFD1-related pseudogenes (amplified within the ampliconic region), and none are thought to be active protein-coding genes in humans[1]. Instead, these represent nonfunctional relics of the ancestral OFD1 gene, which on the X chromosome encodes a protein involved in centriole and centriolar satellite biology, but the Y-linked pseudogenes—including OFD1P15Y—are not considered functional, nor therapeutic targets[1][2]. There is no evidence linking OFD1 pseudogenes to biological functions, diseases, drug interactions, or clinical biomarker roles. While a functional Y-linked OFD1 gene (OFD1Y) has been identified and is active in cattle, in humans, all Y-linked OFD1 copies are pseudogenes and do not produce protein; only the X-linked OFD1 (“OFD1 centriole and centriolar satellite protein”) produces a functional protein in humans[1][4]. There is no established medical, pharmacological, or biomarker significance—OFD1 pseudogenes on the human Y chromosome are the result of gene duplication and degeneration, not active biological function.
