Overview

OLA1 pseudogene 1 (OLA1P1) is a predicted pseudogene based on sequence homology to the functional gene Obg-like ATPase 1 (OLA1). Unlike OLA1, which encodes a highly conserved GTPase/ATPase involved in cell cycle progression, stress response, and tumorigenesis, OLA1P1 does not produce a functional protein and is not implicated in any established biological processes or considered a therapeutic target. Literature and experimental evidence focus on OLA1 as the true molecular target, especially in the context of cancer and cell proliferation. Pseudogenes are defunct relatives of functional genes, often arising from gene duplication or retrotransposition. They generally lack protein-coding capacity due to mutations or truncations and are not selected as direct drug targets unless a regulatory (e.g., RNA-mediated) function is discovered, which is not currently documented for OLA1P1. There is a critical distinction: OLA1 (Obg-like ATPase 1) is the protein target with established roles in cell cycle and cancer; OLA1P1 is a pseudogene without documented biological or therapeutic relevance.
