Overview

OLA1 pseudogene 2 (OLA1P2) is a processed (retroposed) pseudogene derived from the parental gene OLA1, located on chromosome 4 in humans[7]. Unlike the functional OLA1 gene, which encodes a GTPase/ATPase involved in cell cycle regulation, stress response, and cancer progression, OLA1P2 does not encode a functional protein and is not known to serve as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. There are currently no validated biological functions, disease associations, drug interactions, or clinical roles for OLA1P2. Its sequence is primarily used for comparative genomics and does not serve as a recognized target for therapeutic intervention[3][5][7][8][13].

Biological functions

Pseudogenes sometimes participate in gene regulation as non-coding RNAs or as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that can regulate parental gene expression, although no functions specific to OLA1P2 have been established[13][10][8].No established protein or enzymatic functions.

Most pseudogenes do not encode active proteins and are not generally implicated as direct drivers in disease.Some pseudogenes have regulatory roles in cancer and other diseases (acting as ceRNAs), but there are no validated disease associations for OLA1P2 so far[12][13][10].
