Overview

OLA1 pseudogene 3 (OLA1P3) is a non-functional DNA sequence on the human genome that shares significant similarity with the functional OLA1 (Obg-like ATPase 1) gene, but does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes arise through events such as gene duplication or retrotransposition followed by mutation[4]. Unlike the protein-coding OLA1 gene—which is a member of the GTPase protein family, involved in centrosome regulation, cancer proliferation, and interacts with BRCA1—pseudogenes like OLA1P3 are generally considered genetically inactive and have no direct biological or therapeutic significance[1][4][6][8]. There are no drugs, disease biomarkers, or safety risks associated with OLA1P3 itself. Pseudogenes may occasionally play regulatory roles at the RNA level, but there is no evidence for OLA1P3 having such a function to date[4][6][8].

Biological functions

Other (No known direct biological functions; pseudogenes generally lack protein-coding function)
03

Disease associations

Other (No established disease associations for this pseudogene itself; however, related protein-coding gene OLA1 is implicated in cancer[1][2][3])
