Olfactory receptor 10A3 (OR10A3)

Target
OR10A3
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Odorant receptor, 7-transmembrane domain receptor
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor 10A3 is a member of the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), sharing a seven-transmembrane domain structure commonly found in many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][3][6][7]. Traditionally known for recognizing odorant molecules within the nasal epithelium to initiate neuronal responses for smell perception, OR10A3 also exhibits ectopic activity in non-olfactory tissues. In human dermal fibroblasts, activation by suberic acid counteracts ultraviolet B–induced reductions in collagen synthesis, supporting extracellular matrix integrity and implicating OR10A3 as a potential therapeutic target to maintain or restore skin structure and function, particularly in anti-aging contexts. Its gene family is the largest in the human genome, and olfactory receptor nomenclature is species-specific[1][6][7].
