Olfactory receptor 10A7 (OR10A7)

Target
OR10A7
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Receptor, Membrane protein (7-transmembrane domain protein)

Overview

Olfactory receptor 10A7 (OR10A7) is a member of the largest gene family encoding G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in humans. This protein has a 7-transmembrane domain structure and is expressed in the nasal olfactory epithelium, where it binds specific odorant molecules and activates a signal transduction cascade through G proteins, leading to neuronal signals responsible for the perception of smell. While olfactory receptors as a group show roles in extranasal tissues and may have implications in some diseases, OR10A7 itself is not currently associated with common human pathologies or therapeutic targeting. It is not considered a biomarker or druggable target in clinical practice. Its primary and canonical function is in the detection of environmental odorants.
