Olfactory receptor 13G1 (OR13G1)

Target
OR13G1
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Receptor, Seven-transmembrane domain protein
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor 13G1 (OR13G1) is a human protein encoded by the OR13G1 gene, located on chromosome 1. It is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily and features a seven-transmembrane domain typical of other GPCRs. This receptor is expressed in the nasal epithelium, where it interacts with odorant molecules to trigger neuronal signaling and the perception of smells, functioning as part of the largest gene family in the human genome. The nomenclature for olfactory receptors is species-specific and does not correlate across organisms. Although recent research indicates olfactory receptors in general may have broader physiological effects outside the olfactory system, there is no conclusive evidence placing OR13G1 itself in disease or drug interaction contexts.
