Olfactory receptor 1D5 (OR1D5) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) found primarily in the olfactory epithelium of the nose. These receptors are responsible for detecting odorant molecules and initiating the neuronal signals that result in the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR1D5 possesses a seven-transmembrane domain structure and is encoded by a single coding-exon gene. This gene is located on human chromosome 17. Olfactory receptors are the largest gene family in the human genome and function primarily in olfactory signal transduction via G protein-mediated pathways. There are no well-documented associations of OR1D5 with major diseases, no approved drugs targeting this receptor, and it is not currently used as a biomarker or therapeutic target outside of basic research[1][3][10][12].
