Olfactory receptor 1L3 (OR1L3)

Target
OR1L3
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor, Olfactory receptor, Class A (Rhodopsin-like) GPCR
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor 1L3 (OR1L3) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors responsible for the initial detection of odorants in the nasal olfactory epithelium[5][7]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR1L3 features the characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure of class A GPCRs and is primarily expressed in sensory neurons of the nose, where it mediates the detection of specific chemical odorants to initiate the sense of smell[4][7]. OR1L3 may also be expressed at low levels in non-olfactory tissues, but its physiological role is best established in olfactory signal transduction. To date, no drugs are known to specifically interact with OR1L3, nor is it associated with major diseases or utilized as a biomarker.

Other names

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (No drugs target OR1L3 directly; odorant molecules bind and activate via classic GPCR mechanisms)

03

Biological functions

Signal transductionOdorant recognition (smell perception)
04

Disease associations

Other (There is emerging evidence for possible roles in non-olfactory tissues, but not conclusively linked to common diseases)
05

Safety considerations

None known (OR1L3 is not targeted by approved therapeutics, so specific safety concerns are not described)
06

Interacting drugs

None known (No drugs are approved, in clinical development, or commonly studied for modulation of OR1L3)
07

Biomarkers

None known (OR1L3 is not a clinical biomarker for patient selection or efficacy monitoring)
