Olfactory receptor 1N2 (OR1N2) is a member of the olfactory receptor family—a group of G protein-coupled receptors characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure, encoded by a single exon gene in humans[8][5]. OR1N2 is responsible for the initial molecular detection of odorant molecules in the olfactory epithelium of the nose, activating G protein-coupled signaling cascades that result in the perception of smell[8][5][7]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR1N2 participates in recognizing structurally diverse odorants, contributing to the broad chemosensory repertoire of the mammalian olfactory system[6][5]. The gene nomenclature for olfactory receptors in humans is species-specific and does not necessarily correspond across mammals[8]. While olfactory receptors in general can play roles in nonolfactory tissues and diseases, no specific disease relevance is currently attributed to OR1N2[3][5][8]. There are no drugs, biomarkers, or safety issues reported for this receptor.
