Overview

Olfactory receptor 2A12 (OR2A12) is a member of the olfactory receptor family in humans, encoded by the *OR2A12* gene[3][4]. This protein functions as a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), with a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain architecture shared with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[3][4]. OR2A12 is expressed in the nasal olfactory epithelium, where it binds specific odorant molecules to initiate signaling that results in the perception of smells. Olfactory receptors like OR2A12 are essential for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and these proteins arise from single coding-exon genes. While the function of OR2A12 itself is not linked to specific pathologies or drug responses, members of the olfactory receptor family play a critical role in chemosensation[3][4][5].
