Olfactory receptor 2K2 (OR2K2) is a member of the olfactory receptor family and encodes a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) responsible for binding odorant molecules in the nose, leading to neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2K2 has a 7-transmembrane domain structure and is encoded by a single coding-exon gene. The olfactory receptor gene family, including OR2K2, is the largest gene family in the human genome, and these receptors play a key role in the initial detection and recognition of external odorant signals[1][2][3][4][6][8].
