Overview

Olfactory receptor 51A7 (OR51A7) is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, specifically within the olfactory receptor family 51, subfamily A. These receptors are primarily responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, leading to activation of downstream signaling pathways that produce the perception of smell[4][7][10]. OR51A7 is characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain architecture typical of GPCRs, and by initiating G protein-mediated signal transduction upon ligand binding[3][7]. The gene encoding OR51A7 is expressed predominantly in olfactory sensory neurons[4][7]. Its endogenous ligands and physiological roles beyond olfaction remain poorly characterized, and there are no documented therapeutic drugs or disease associations specific to this receptor in the literature as of this time[2][5][7][13].
