Olfactory receptor 52B6 (OR52B6) is a member of the olfactory receptor family and is encoded by the OR52B6 gene in humans. Olfactory receptors function in the nose to recognize odorant molecules and initiate a G protein-coupled signaling cascade that leads to the neuronal perception of smell. OR52B6, like other olfactory receptors, is a seven-transmembrane domain GPCR and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome. The olfactory receptor gene family exhibits extensive diversity, allowing for the detection of a wide spectrum of odorant molecules. Structural studies of the related OR52 family highlight the specific recognition of carboxylic acid odorants and a distinct mechanism of receptor activation involving transmembrane domain movements. However, OR52B6 itself has no known therapeutic, disease, or biomarker roles, nor are there any drug interactions documented as of current knowledge.
