Olfactory receptor 52E8 (OR52E8) is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed primarily in the olfactory epithelium of the nose, where it is responsible for the detection of specific odorant molecules and the initiation of neuronal signals that result in the perception of smell[1][3][4]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR52E8 possesses a 7-transmembrane domain structure typical of class A GPCRs, arising from a single coding exon[3][4][7]. The olfactory receptor gene family, of which this gene is a member, is the largest in the human genome. OR52E8 is considered a functional gene and not a pseudogene[2], but it is not regarded as a pharmacological or therapeutic target. There is no evidence of clinically relevant drug interactions or established disease associations for this receptor.
