Olfactory receptor 5B17 is a human protein encoded by the OR5B17 gene. It is a member of the large olfactory receptor family and belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. OR5B17, like other olfactory receptors, is responsible for recognizing odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell. These receptors share a seven-transmembrane domain structure common to many GPCRs and play a critical role in G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The gene family is the largest in the human genome, and individual olfactory receptors have diverse expression patterns and functions; however, drug interactions and biomarker roles for OR5B17 are not established in current research[1][2][3][8].
