Olfactory receptor 5B3 (OR5B3) is a member of the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the olfactory epithelium, initiating neuronal signaling that leads to the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR5B3 contains a 7-transmembrane domain characteristic of GPCRs and is encoded by a single coding-exon gene. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature in humans is independent of that in other organisms[5][6]. There is no indication that OR5B3 is a therapeutic target for drugs, nor is it implicated as a biomarker, in disease, or as a safety concern. This gene is well classified in annotated databases and shares canonical olfactory receptor biology; there is no evidence for a misspelling or incorrect target entry[5][2][6].
