Olfactory receptor 5W2 (OR5W2) is a G protein-coupled receptor predominantly expressed in the human olfactory epithelium, where it mediates the recognition of specific odorant molecules and initiates neuronal responses necessary for the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR5W2 possesses a seven-transmembrane domain structure and is encoded by a single coding-exon gene[1][2][8]. These receptors represent the largest gene family in the human genome and operate via G protein-mediated pathways to transduce odorant signals[2][1][6]. While essential in sensory physiology, OR5W2 is not known to play a direct role in human disease and is not a therapeutic target or established biomarker in medical practice[6][2][8].
