Olfactory receptor 6C3 (OR6C3) is a protein encoded by the OR6C3 gene in humans. It belongs to the largest gene family in the genome, the olfactory receptors, which are responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose and the initiation of neuronal signals that result in the perception of smell. Olfactory receptor 6C3 is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, and typical of such receptors, has a 7-transmembrane domain structure. These receptors recognize specific odorants and mediate signal transduction via G proteins, though the specific odorant ligands and physiological roles for OR6C3 remain undefined.
