Olfactory receptor 6N1 (OR6N1) is a member of the olfactory receptor family and is responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, initiating the neuronal responses that enable the perception of smell[1][3][5][10]. OR6N1, like other olfactory receptors, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) with a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure and participates in G protein-mediated signal transduction following binding to specific odorants[1][2][3][5]. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and these genes are primarily expressed in the olfactory epithelium, though recent research indicates possible roles in some extranasal tissues[1][6]. OR6N1 is not generally recognized as a therapeutic drug target and currently lacks known pharmacological ligands or established mechanisms of drug action[1][5][6][10]. There is limited evidence linking this receptor to disease, with rare mention of associations such as entropion, but its canonical biological function remains sensory detection of odors[5].
