Olfactory receptor 6P1 is a member of the human olfactory receptor gene family, the largest in the genome, encoding proteins that mediate the neurological detection of odorant molecules in the nose. Like other olfactory GPCRs, the protein contains seven transmembrane helices and is responsible for the initial recognition and G protein-mediated signaling of volatile compounds, inducing a neuronal response that results in the perception of smells. OR6P1’s expression is specific to olfactory sensory neurons, and its precise ligand spectrum and physiological roles are not fully characterized in the literature. No drugs are known to target this receptor directly, nor is it implicated in specific human pathologies beyond rare genome-wide associations.
