Olfactory receptor 7A5 (OR7A5) is a member of the olfactory receptor family expressed primarily in the olfactory epithelium within the nose, where it detects specific odorant molecules and initiates a G protein-mediated signal transduction pathway resulting in the perception of smell[1][3][4]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR7A5 is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) displaying a seven-transmembrane (7TM) domain structure[1][3]. The OR7A5 gene is located on chromosome 19 and, consistent with most olfactory receptors, is encoded by a single exon[1]. This receptor is primarily involved in odor recognition but shows ectopic expression in non-chemosensory tissues such as human testis and sperm, where its physiological role is less well established but may include mediating chemotactic responses to specific odorant-like molecules[5][7]. There is currently no evidence to support its use as a therapeutic or diagnostic target, nor are there drugs known to interact with it; its function and structure make it central to the sensory process of olfaction but not a direct target for pharmacologic intervention[1][3][4][7].
