Olfactory receptor 7G2 is a member of the olfactory receptor family, encoded by the OR7G2 gene in humans. It belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain common to neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. Olfactory receptors are chiefly responsible for recognizing odorant molecules in the nose and initiating a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. While primarily involved in olfaction, emerging research suggests that some olfactory receptors may have functions in nonolfactory tissues; however, specific extranasal roles for OR7G2 are not documented. This receptor is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, and no drugs are known to target it specifically[1][2][3][8].
