Olfactory receptor 8B8 (OR8B8) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) belonging to the rhodopsin-like (Class A) family, primarily known for its role in the sensory perception of smell [1, 2]. It is encoded by the OR8B8 gene and functions by binding odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, which triggers a signaling cascade involving the G_olf protein, adenylyl cyclase III, and the production of cyclic AMP (cAMP) [1, 6]. Beyond its canonical role in olfaction, OR8B8 is ectopically expressed in various non-olfactory tissues, including the heart and malignant tumors [1, 20]. Notably, research has identified OR8B8 as being exclusively expressed in malignant breast epithelial cells, positioning it as a potential diagnostic biomarker and a candidate for targeted cancer therapies [28, 31]. Although no approved therapeutic agents currently target OR8B8, its specific expression patterns and druggable GPCR structure make it an object of interest in oncology and precision medicine research [22, 32].
