Olfactory receptor 9A2 is part of the human olfactory receptor gene family, the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors in the genome. These receptors are expressed in the olfactory epithelium of the nose, where they interact with odorant molecules to initiate signal transduction through G proteins, resulting in neuronal signaling and the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors share the canonical seven-transmembrane domain architecture common to GPCRs. While typically associated with the sense of smell, some olfactory receptors may play wider roles in non-olfactory tissues, although OR9A2’s precise functions outside the olfactory system have not yet been established. No current pharmacological agents or disease biomarkers target OR9A2, nor is it associated with any major pathology or safety issues
